Hi everyone!
This is a photo from Águas Claras, where I live in DF. There are many apartment buildings and there is a constant growth of its population. When I moved to Águas Claras, things were very difficult around here, there were few bakeries, drugstores, gas stations and schools. There weren´t doctors or dentists nearby. Now they are building the second mall in the neighborhood and it´s easier to find things you need. On weekends, the streets are very calm and people usually stay home enjoying their families and resting. Most of people from here work at Plano Piloto and go to work by subway. I like living here!

Teaching, learning and technology

Hi everyone! I´m here to talk a little bit about this teaching-learning process.... or learning-teaching process....whatever.....they are so connected to each other that, nowadays, it gets very difficult to put them apart. Teachers not only teach but also learn during classroom time and the other way around do students. They are part of one another and we have to make the link between them to be part of education in the 21st century. And besides that, we have technology the most powerful tool when you are dealing with digital natives as students inside your classroom. Kids are different learners these days, they come to school surrounded by tech devices and information and it certainly makes social, economics, technological and cultural changes happen. So, what do they expect from us (teachers)?
Education has also changed in many of its concepts about the expectations of what a future citizen is. They are not supposed to be a person full of theory and knowledge with a certificate on their hands. They need more. They do need to acquire knowledge while at school, but they also have to learn how to communicate, to develop critical thinking, learn in different ways, practice, discuss, deal with technology and many other things that make our classrooms totally different from the ones in the past. They have a voice now, they are supposed to speak, to express their opinion, to agree and disagree. Consequently, the 21st century teacher can not be the one standing and talking in front of the classroom but the facilitator that prepares the activities previously, setting goals and an important point to be considered while doing this is taking into consideration the previous knowledge students have. Reflecting upon this, the teacher will be able to change, adapt and evaluate. Having digital native learners, the teacher must remember that there are a lot to think and rethink while planning a class. When concepts, reading and theory are done, it is time to put into practice. But everything should be done in a contextualized and meaningful way, and technology is meaningful for them. So, go on, take risks, update yourself, bring tech information to your class, learn from students. Welcome to the 21st century!
